Hi,

Are you wanting to use the Drum pads?
We don't currently have a mapping option for these at present. It is in development at the moment however.

There are 2 easy ways to control Drum Pads without remotify.
1. Use a Midikeyboard or change (if possible) the Midinotes of your Pads starting with C3 and activate record on the track (without running a script on the same Controller that uses the Pads)
2. Make an Ableton user script (description on the Ableton page) the userscript isnĀ“t that Powerfull like remotify, but you can add Faders, Sends, and Drumpads and use this script in the same way like remotify scripts. If you donĀ“t use the same Pads in the remotify script, you can use both at the same time, the user script for the Pads and remotify for every other Knobs, Buttons and Faders on the Controller.

Hi Simsonatic!
Hi John!

Thank you for suggesting UserConfiguration.txt
I had no idea that Remotify was not able to do DrumPads (when will it be implemented?).

So I went for your suggestion no.2 but ran in to a problem:

Both the Remotify Script and the Ableton InstantMappings perform as expected, but unfortunately not together :-(

I made a screenshot hopefully showing what I did.

Can you please help me to get my BeatStep Pads to trigger notes, while being able to also twist the knobs at the same time?

See screenshot

Thank you guys!

Hi Simon Absent,
It sounds like you are wanting to use the Beatstep in a similar way as I do - use the remotify script for faders, pan, macros but also the pads sometimes to trigger samples in a drumrack?
What I did was make a 2nd Preset layer in remotify and then only map the knobs to macros, I don't map anything to the pads in this second layer (see screenshot). In the Arturia Midi COntrol Centre, I mapped notes chromatically from C1 up to D#2 to the pads in the second preset. My Ableton midi preferences basically look like yours, but I have to double check tomorrow when I connect the beatstep to my laptop.
Never having used the UserConfiguration.txt file, looking at your screenshot, I'm wondering what the negative values (-1) are for your midi notes and channels... Note C1 =24 for example. Maybe that's where your script isn't working, since there are no negative values. But again, I have not worked with the UserConfiguration.txt file, so perhaps I'm simply misunderstanding that screenshot.

I'd like to add that it's not possible to ALSO map something in CSS to one of the pads in the second preset, as this is being used by the native Beatstep script. So in my experience, one cannot double assign. I hope this helps. :)

Hi Annette, thank you for the reply!

First of all "-1" means "Global Channel" it is like a placeholder using a default setting if nothing is defined.
So 84 is the CC Note Value of C3 for Pad1 - the Channel of Pad1 is set to "-1" which defaults in my case to MIDI channel 1

About your setup:
1st of all - YES! I want to use the Beatstep to trigger Simpler-Samples and the knobs to tweak the pitch of the samples, etc.
It sounds great that you got it running even without using the Ableton thingie mentioned.

What I have done in the Arturia Control Center is Define MIDI Notes to each Pad. But I tried this in Ableton and while it does give me blinking lights in the top left corner of Ableton telling me that MIDI messages are present I just can't get it to play anything like a Sampler or Operator, etc.

No matter what MIDI input device I choose in Ableton - I just cant get any Ableton instrument to recieve the MIDI :-(

I thought "Well maybe I need to define something in Remotify" - then I read here that isn't supposed to be possible (yet) to use DrumPads in Remotify.

This brings me to my question dear Annette:

How exactly did you "define" the pads in Remotify?

(1) First, in the Arturia Midi Control Center, I made my Beatstep preset (Screen Shot 1). For the knobs all CC relative messages, for the pads all just notes - I think this might be what you already have. Saving this to preset location #2 on the beatstep.
----I'm simplifying the next scenarios for the sake of just making this aspect work---
(2) Then in CSS, I have my Controller Template, in which I defined all the knobs accordingly to the setup done in step 1). EXCEPT FOR THE ONE PAD SHOWN IN SCREEN SHOT 2 (edited for this post!), I did NOT define any other pad accordingly to my note assignments done in step 1). In fact, all the pads are (randomly) assigned to CC messages, which are messages that will not be sent by the beatstep, since I defined them as note messages in the Arturia Midi Control Center before. This way, I avoid any overlap of message-sending/receiving between the Arturia Beatstep script and the CSS script. However, I did assign that one pad (see in screen shot 2) to a note message, because I want this one pad to be controlling "mute" (as I will have defined in step 3) and not actually trigger a note.

(3) As shown in Screen Shot 3, I ONLY assign functions in CSS to the knobs and that one pad.
(4) Screen Shot 4 shows my Ableton midi preferences: Beatstep appears twice (as in your screenshot), once controlled by CSS and once controlled by Beatstep native script.

-----------------
If this sounds too complicated, the extremely simplified instruction is: Don't define any pads that you want to send note messages in CSS, not even in the controller template! Only define the ones you want to send controll messages (in my case shown in Screen Shot 2.)

I hope any of this made sense haha.

Thank you so much for taking the time Annette - looks lke all I need to do is delete the pads I pre programmed and take it from there.

Here is a screenshot of my setup right now:

I will report back - thanks!
